Description
In 1853 Bechstein, a French-trained German piano craftsman, founded the company. For over a century and a half, it has been creating grand pianos for concert halls and homes, as well as beautiful upright pianos for music lovers with limited space. The name Bechstein quickly became famous for the stability of the materials used, unusually for the time, and the great resistance of its instruments. Bechstein now focuses not only on developing new models and technological advances, but also on creating museum-quality copies of his historic pianos, created for European royalty on the eve of the twentieth century. Bechstein is currently in its sixth generation of piano makers, manufacturing specialists.
The Bechstein piano, model L, serial number 163815, glossy black, features the Schwander mechanism which was widely used from the early twentieth century until the end of the 1960s. The feature that distinguishes this mechanism is its agility: it was one of the fastest mechanisms without being too light. The typical hammers of this house were made in an essential way: natural felt mounted directly on a wooden core, without any underfelting. The sound is round in the bass but does not lack brilliance in the cantabile and treble, without however ever being metallic.
