Museum Quality AMC Certified Rebuilt Piano
This fully restored 1927 J & C Fischer Grand Piano is an incredibly unique and beautiful example of one of the finest art-case pianos made by this company at the height of American piano manufacturing in the 1920’s. Its Victorian Eastlake design represents the revival in earlier furniture styles popular during the 20’s and 30’s era. Vintage Fischer pianos were built extremely well and were known for exquisitely carved cases. The craftsmanship of Fischer pianos reflects the attention and detail of old world cabinetry and superior workmanship that once was the standard of piano making in America.
Restoration and Refinishing
This piano was professionally restored and refinished by Atlantic Music Center in 2021 and is an AMC Certified Rebuilt piano. It has received a complete and thorough restoration of the action using brand new Renner action parts including new hammers, shanks, and flanges. A new pinblock, nickel plated tuning pins, high-quality Mapes strings, and corresponding parts were expertly installed. The hammers were voiced and the action thoroughly regulated by our shop piano technicians.
The case of the piano exemplifies the high level of craftsmanship employed by J&C Fischer in both the design and construction of their art-case pianos. Its Victorian Era case is adorned with intricate wood carvings and inlay in the Eastlake period of design named for English designer and reformer Charles Eastlake. His views were a reaction to the heavy dark furniture of the mid-19th century. The entire mahogany wood case (and original matching bench!) have been expertly refinished in a satin finish and all brass and metalwork has been polished or replaced to return this fine instrument to its former glory.
Sound & Playability
The action on this piano is and tight, responsive, and is a pleasure to perform on. The piano has a somewhat smooth and mellow tone with rich overtones that round out the full sound that pianists have come to expect from these finely restored American pianos. The fact that this piano looks, plays, and sounds this good for a piano built almost a century ago is amazing in itself and is true testament to the design, materials, skill, and craftsmanship of this iconic American piano manufacturer and to the skilled craftsman who built Fischer pianos.
History of the J & C Fischer Piano Company
The J & C Fischer Piano Company was one of the earliest piano companies to establish itself in the United States. It was named and established after brothers John & Charles Fischer in 1840 in New York City. They built exceptional pianos and were widely considered top-quality instruments in the industry. Fischer was one of the most prominent and successful piano companies in the US during the 19th and 20th centuries. Most piano manufactures were forced out of business during the Great Depression and purchased by larger companies. Fischer was purchased by the Aeolian-American P
