Hallet, Davis & Company is one of the oldest American factories in Boston, Massachusetts, founded before the legendary brands Steinway & Sons, Mason & Hamlin and Baldwin. The company’s initial name was "Brown & Hallet" (1833), until 1843, when one of the founders retired and was replaced by George Davis. The second owner did not stay for long, 4 years later the owner changed again, and the brand was called "Hallet & Cumston". They produced upright and grand pianos called Hallet & Davis, and Hallet & Cumston.

Again, the name Hallet, Davis & Co. came back into use around 1880. Very popular at that time were massive, carved and exclusive square pianos, an overview of which can be found in archival catalogues. Also pianos at the turn of the 19th and 20th century were extremely solid and full of ornaments. Hallet & Davis Piano Company was acquired by the Premier Grand Corporation of New York in November 1925. Like many companies after the great crisis in America, the company was sold and became part of Aeolian - American Corporation. The company operated until 1985, the brand has been owned by North American Music since the 1990s, and Hallet & Davis upright and grand pianos are manufactured in China (for several years they were also created by Samick in Korea).

American-made Hallet & Davis upright and grand pianos are described as valuable, robust and expensive quality instruments. They have been valued by musicians and composers, and have been very well received by great artists such as Franz Liszt and Johann Strauss. Due to their high quality, these are upright and grand pianos that can be renovated and retain their splendour despite many years of use.

Contemporary Hallet & Davis pianos are very different from the instruments that were made in America, they are made in mass, largely through line production in huge Chinese factories. Manufacturers, however, are committed to continue to improve the quality of their pianos and use the best possible components, including European ones.
