WHAT AND WHY I SELL

I am regretfully separate from my Schimmel C189 Tradition (“Konzert” prepared) due to a move which forces me to replace it with an upright.
 
Bought new in 2004, I had a lot of fun with this piano which includes the whole range of tonal richness necessary for a true pianist looking for the best compromise between the dimensions of a grand and the needs to fit into limited space.
 
I particularly appreciated its warm “German” sound: an essential criterion at the time of my purchase.
 
My C189 enjoyed greatest care:

- Positioned away from direct sunlight, in a ventilated room, with constant temperature and humidity, away from any artificial heat source, it has never been moved
- Full balance in May 2016
- Regular maintenance and tunings, last one in July 2023 at the occasion of pianist Slava Guerchovitch’s visit who used it to practice before a concert in Bozar (Brussels)

THE SCHIMMEL C189 TRADITION IN DETAIL
-------------------------------------------------------------- 

The C189T, a large baby grand, is at the center of the legendary “Schimmel Classic Trilogy”. It meets the expectations of pianists looking for:

- A warm, round and full sound: deep in the bass, pure in the treble, refined and velvety overall
- Uncompromising blueprints and precise mechanics
- Sound power adapted to a limited space while offering all tonal amenities
- An instrument that is both an impeccable work tool and a true piano of expression.
 
The C189 is entirely hand-made in Braunschweig, with high-end materials, based on technical expertise that no longer needs to be demonstrated. It is BVK certified (i.e. Bundesverband Klavier e.V) 100% German and obtained the distinction “Pianiste Maestro” from the magazine “Pianiste” in 2004.
 
Main technical characteristics:

- CAD Schimmel designed cast iron frame
- Enlarged sounding board: +15% compared to a standard grand
- Harmonic structure with dynamic tension: a tension collector releases the soundboard from the 20t of string tension, thus allowing it to vibrate more freely
- Membrane soundboard made of spruce wood from Bavarian high-altitude forests: rare, precious, selected exclusively for Schimmel
- Renner mechanics for Schimmel
- Renner hammers: hardwood core + merino wool heads = durability and great richness of tonal colors in all levels of dynamics
- Triplex scale: each front top string is adjustable = allows to optimize the choice of harmonies when tuning
- Schimmel keyboard: mineral coating for the white keys + ebony for the black keys = pleasant touch and “glare-free” visual
- Three pedals: strong, tonal (sostenuto) and soft
- Keyboard cover cylinder retarder
- Weight: 361kg
