The grand piano formerly belonged to the Danish/Russian Empress Dagmar married to Tsar Alexander III of Russia and her sister, Queen Alexandra of England. Empress Dagmar took the piano with her from England to Denmark in her exile after the execution of her son, Tsar Nicolaj II of Russia and all his family in 1918.

This provenance has now been confirmed from old photos from the castle Hvidøre in Denmark where Dagmar resided.
