Beskrivning
On behalf of the owner, I am brokering for sale a rare and historic Schild Klavierbauer, Klavier-Salon R. Swoboda, Wien Concert Piano, dating between 1870 and 1910, originally imported from France by the owner's grandfather, Dick Oliphant. The piano was a centerpiece at the Palm Desert Resort Country Club in Southern California, where it featured prominently in Jazz Night for many years.
This instrument was played in the presence of musicians such as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Jack Jones, and Chuck Berghofer, making it a part of the region’s rich cultural history during the 1950s. When the resort changed ownership, the owner's father, Richard Oliphant—a musician and film director—was gifted the piano, and it has remained in our family since.
While in good overall condition, the piano does have minor cosmetic damage from a candle burn on the underside of the hinged lid. Restoration would be required to fully return it to its original state. Based on my research, similar pianos in pristine condition are highly sought after by collectors due to their craftsmanship and historical significance.
The owner is parting with this instrument as he is not a pianist and would like to see it appreciated by someone who will value its musical heritage. He is in the process of remodeling the home it is currently located in and he is motivated to sell.
Audio file of the instrument being played and other pictures are available for review.
