Ibach is a German brand of upright and grand pianos that has gained recognition among musicians for its excellent quality and beautiful sound. For over 200 years, the company was run by one family and was one of the oldest piano factories in the world! (It lost this status in 2007.) Ibach instruments were used in their compositions by artists such as Richard Wagner, Johann Strauss and Johannes Brahms. The brand is still in high demand and owning an Ibach piano is synonymous with luxury and prestige.

Ibach – history

Ibach is a brand with more than 200 years of history, having been founded as early as 1794 in the German town of Schwelm. Founded by Johann Adam Ibach, it quickly gained recognition among music lovers for its high-quality instruments. Over the course of seven generations, the company was managed by a single family, a testament to their concern for product quality.

Ibach initially produced organs, but soon began to focus on piano production. The company always paid great attention to the design of its upright and grand pianos, and even held competitions to design the piano case. Unfortunately, after more than 200 years of these fine traditions, Ibach ended the production of upright and grand pianos in Germany on 31 December 2007.

The great composers piano

Ibach pianos have always been held in high regard by musicians and their quality and beauty of sound have been incomparable. Many famous artists, including Richard Wagner, Richard Strauss and Johannes Brahms, used Ibach pianos in their compositions.

The former (Wagner) composed the parts of the opera “Parsifal” on his piano serial number 7000. And an entire series of F-III 215 pianos was named after Richard Strauss (a long-time friend of the Ibach family).

    1. Thank you for your comment and interest in Ibach pianos. We understand your disappointment upon learning that Ibach ceased the production of upright and grand pianos. After over 200 years of craftsmanship, the company ended its piano manufacturing operations on December 31, 2007.
While new Ibach pianos are no longer available, you might consider exploring the market for pre-owned Ibach instruments. Many of these pianos have been well-maintained and can still offer the rich sound and quality that Ibach was known for.
