What is a modern piano and what is a period piano?

Historical and modern pianos differ not only in age, but also in the construction, materials and technology used to build them. The distinction between them is not based on one specific cut-off date, but on the evolution of their construction and sound over the centuries.

Modern instruments are produced on a larger scale, using modern technology, which guarantees their durability and uniformity of sound. Historic pianos, on the other hand, have a unique sound resulting from the use of older construction techniques and materials that give them a warmer and more organic tone.

Differences in sound and play

Historic pianos have a softer and richer sound, which is often appreciated by musicians and listeners seeking an authentic musical experience. Modern pianos, however, offer greater precision and strength of sound, making them more versatile in a variety of musical genres.
